India emerged second-best to Australia in the U19 World Cup 2024 final. The young Blues were unbeaten in the tournament, right till the final. However, Australia were deserved winners on Sunday, claiming a 79-run win over arch-rivals India.
Opting to bat, Australia hit a decent total of 253 runs in the first innings. Opener Harry Dixon and skipper Hugh Weibgen provided a solid start, scoring 42 and 48-respectively. Indian-origin batter Harjas Singh was India's nightmare in the final, as he scored a well-made 55 on the night of the final.
Indian bowlers picked wickets but failed to keep Australian batters under check. Raj Limbani bagged three wickets, while Naman Tiwari picked up another two.
Chasing 254, Indian batters failed miserably, and could not step up to the occasion. Opener Adarsh Singh (47) and spin-bowling all-rounder Murugan Abhishek (42) were the only batsmen who crossed the 25-run mark for India. Raf MacMillan and Mahli Beardman bagged three dismissals each, as India's ship sunk before it could even catch a sight of the shore.
The Indian cricket team fans were utterly dejected and anguished on the loss in the U19 World Cup final. The loss on Sunday meant that India went down to Australia in the third ICC tournament final, in less than nine months.
