England captain Eoin Morgan insists he does not have any regrets despite the team's poor showing at the Cricket World Cup.
Having suffered heavy defeats to Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, England were eliminated from Pool A earlier this week courtesy of a 15-run defeat against Bangladesh.
They avoided further embarrassment by beating Afghanistan by nine wickets on Friday, in a match shortened due to heavy rainfall at the SCG in Sydney.
The convincing nature of the victory over Afghanistan will do little to prevent calls for coach Peter Moores and captain Morgan to be replaced.
But Morgan, who only took over as one-day international skipper last December, insists he gave it his all and wants to continue in the role.
"There are no regrets, absolutely not," he said. "We've given it everything. Certainly myself I know have.
"Have we been adventurous enough? When we've earned the right yes we have. But when we've had bad days you can't afford to be adventurous."
With England having badly underperformed throughout the tournament, Morgan is keen for the team to get back to basics.
"I think I mentioned after the Bangladesh game the things that have let us down have been very basic stuff," he added.
"When you've had a bad day you have to find a way of scrapping or fighting to stay in the game. When we've had bad days we've been out of the game more often than not.
"So to build we have to get the basics right, in terms of building innings, creating partnerships and building pressure with the ball. When we've been poor we haven't done those things."
