Bangladesh scripted history by defeating New Zealand by 150 runs in the Test series opener in Sylhet.

This victory marks Bangladesh's second Test win over the Kiwis and is their maiden win on home soil. The match turned out to be a rollercoaster as both teams fought fiercely.

Bangladesh compiled 310 in the first innings, with Mahmudul Hasan Joy contributing 86 runs. In reply, New Zealand, led by Kane Williamson's century, posted 317. It was his 29th Test ton, playing his 95th Test match.

Bangladesh managed 338 in the second innings, thanks to Najmul Hossain Shanto's century and fifties from Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan.

In his maiden Test as captain, Shanto scored a historic century and became the first Bangladesh player to achieve this on his captaincy debut. He also became the quickest to score five Test centuries for Bangladesh, achieving this feat in 24 Tests.

Chasing 332, New Zealand could manage to post just 181, with left-arm spinner Taijul Islam bagging six wickets. Daryl Mitchell was the highest score in this innings with his gritty 58 runs from 120 balls.
