BBL: Josh Lalor takes a hat-trick without even knowing it image

The fourth hat-trick in BBL history was swallowed with no emotion whatsoever as Brisbane Heat paceman Josh Lalor had no knowledge of his historic achievement.

Lalor had in fact forgot he dismissed Perth Scorchers quick Andrew Tye the previous over before dismissing Matthew Kelly and Nick Hobson minutes later.

When Hobson skied it into the hands of Heat wicketkeeper James Peirson, Lalor simply paced back to mark out his run-up while the wiser members of the crowd faintly celebrated the feat.

It wasn't until Brisbane batsman Alex Ross heard the ground announcer give Lalor a round of applause that the home side began to get a grip on what was unfolding.

Ross embraced a confused Lalor who was coming to terms with his achievement as skipper Chris Lynn attempted to explain things.

Even Peirson wasn't aware until former Test legend Adam Gilchrist alarmed him from the commentary box.

''Was that a hat-trick? You're kidding,'' Peirson told Fox Sports' commentary team.

''We thought this was the hat-trick ball now.''
