Royal Challengers Bangalore progressed to the second qualifier for the Indian Premier League final with a 71-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator.

A partnership of 113 between AB de Villiers (66) and Mandeep Singh (54 not out) guided Bangalore to 180-4 from their 20 overs on Wednesday.

And the Royals never looked like threatening that total as they capitulated with the bat, Royal Challengers bowling them out for just 109 with an over to spare.

Rajasthan lost six wickets in 31 balls to slump to a defeat that ends their title hopes but sees Bangalore progress to face Chennai Super Kings - who were beaten by finalists Mumbai Indians in the first qualifier - for a place in the showpiece.

Chris Gayle (27) looked well set to be the talisman for Bangalore but lost his middle stump when advancing down the track to attack a Dhawal Kulkarni (2-28) delivery.

Kohli was then caught and bowled by Kulkarni for just 12 but De Villiers produced yet another demonstration of stunning power hitting to turn the tide back in Royal Challengers' favour.

His superb 38-ball knock featured four boundaries and four sixes before a magnificent third-wicket stand with Mandeep was brought to an end as Stuart Binny and James Faulkner combined for a run out.

Mandeep brought up his 50 two balls after De Villiers' dismissal, but was unable to push Bangalore to 190 due to a decent final over from Chris Morris (1-42) in which Dinesh Karthik (8) was caught.

The Royals were never able to put partnerships together in their reply, with Shane Watson (10), Sanju Samson (5), captain Steve Smith (12) and Karun Nair (12) all departing cheaply.

Only Ajinkya Rahane (42) was able to put any kind of pressure on the Royal Challengers' bowling attack, but his exit at the hands of Yuzvendra Chahal (2-20) prompted a collapse as Bangalore cruised to triumph.
