A win will take them to 10 points like New Zealand but to surpass the Black Caps on NRR, they would have to either beat England by 287 runs or chase the given target in 16 balls.
This seems impossible but as they say "cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties."
'If someone wants to advice me, they have my number' - Babar Azam
Pakistan captain Babar Azam fielded questions in the pre-match press conference, on topics ranging from Pakistan's qualification chances to scrutiny on his captaincy.
Babar, who has been under the pump for his batting and leadership, spoke on his captaincy future, stating that he has been performing well for the team for quite some time now and that he is not under any sorts of pressure.
"I am a captain of Pakistan since last three years. I never felt pressure of captaincy. There is no added pressure of captaincy on me. People are talking about my captaincy, but I have not given below average performance in World Cup," Babar said in the pre-match press conference.
He further stated that people who wanted to give suggestions, could do so personally.
"Everybody have their opinions. If someone wants to advise me something, they have my number. Giving advises on TV is easy. Instead, they can message me personally," he added.
Babar Azam shares Pakistan's plan to better New Zealand's NRR
Babar even talked about how can Pakistan better New Zealand's NRR, emphasising that they have made a plan to do so.
"We have planned regarding net run rate against England. However we cannot start blind slogging from ball one. We have a plan on how we can play in the powerplay and build partnerships. If Fakhar bats for 20-30 overs, we can achieve our target."
