Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris were already padding up before Mitchell Starc even had a chance to clean his spikes as Australia took no time in claiming the remaining Indian wicket on day two.

After a jaw-dropping Pat Cummins run-out that put an end to play on day one, Josh Hazlewood got the home side off to a perfect start as he dismissed Mohammed Shami on the very first delivery on day two.

It wasn't Hazlewood's best effort but it got the job done with Shami edging a wayward shot down the leg side straight into the hands of Tim Paine, leaving India on 250 runs after their first bout.

But the gods favoured both teams as India hit back with the dismissal of Aaron Finch on the third ball of their innings through a Ishan Sharma peach.

Looking to get on the offensive, Finch slightly inside-edged a cover drive straight onto his stumps, sending fears of another batting collapse across the nation.

On the other end of the pitch, Marcus Harris kicked off his Test career in style with a cruisy three runs off his first ball to ease the nerves.

The debutant's family were in tears over his second highlight in the baggy green, previously taking a catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma on Thursday.
