Steve Smith is set to shift up to number three in Australia's batting order for the final Test against New Zealand to cover for the injured Usman Khawaja.
Khawaja suffered a hamstring strain while fielding on the second day of the Perth Test, having struck a century on day one.
It was unlucky timing for Khawaja who scored a hundred in each of the first two Tests, but he will now miss the final contest that starts in Adelaide on November 27.
Captain Smith says he will now move from four to three for the historic first day-night Test.
"It depends who comes in but I'll probably bump myself up to three with Usman coming out," Smith said.
"I'll keep that spot warm for him until he comes back."
Smith is familiar with the number three role with four of his 12 Test centuries coming from that spot, including a knock of 138 when filling in for Khawaja in the second innings in Perth.
Australia lead the three-match series 1-0.
