Australia on the brink of T20 series loss to Bangladesh after disastrous batting collapse image

Australia will have to come back from 2-0 down to avoid a disastrous series defeat to Bangladesh after the Tigers held on for a five-wicket victory in the second T20 International on Thursday morning (AEST).

For the second straight day, the tourists produced a batting collapse as they struggled to come to terms with the unfamiliar surroundings of Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The Aussies were well placed at 4-99 after winning the toss and electing to bat.

But when in-form No.3 Mitchell Marsh (45 off 43) departed in the 17th over the visitors lost 4-7 en route to a modest total of 7-121.

With several stars including Steve Smith and David Warner absent from the tour, Marsh once again shouldered the load.

Moises Henriques (30 off 25) provided some support while Mitchell Starc made an unbeaten 13 at the death.

But it wasn’t enough as the Tigers withstood a shaky start of their own to chase down the target with eight balls to spare.

An unbeaten 54-run partnership between Afif Hossain (37 not out) and Nurul Hasan (22 not out) proved the difference between the two sides after the hosts had struggled to 5-67 in the 12th over.

The series will resume on Friday night (AEST), with Game 4 scheduled for Saturday and Game 5 to be played on Monday.
