Australia's tour of South Africa: fixtures, odds and how to watch the third Test? image

It's one-all after a fiery start to Australia's tour of South Africa with both teams having enjoyed a nine-day break before they rip in again for the third Test.

The Aussies defeated the Proteas by 118 runs in the first Test, but the match was overshadowed by the David Warner-Quinton de Kock sledging incident.

An inspired bowling effort from paceman Kagiso Rabada helped the hosts fightback to level the series following their six wicket win.

However, the story of the second Test was the Rabada-Smith incident which saw the South African intially suspended for two games before winning an appeal to play in the final two Tests.

It's been a tense battle to say the least.

This means only one thing; it's set to be a mouth-watering third Test.

WHAT HAPPENED WHEN AUSTRALIA LAST PLAYED AT NEWLANDS?

The last time both sides met at Newlands the Aussies hammered the Proteas by 245 runs but it all came down to the last session on day five with Ryan Harris picking up the final wicket with 27 balls to spare.

Australian vice-captain David Warner made 135 in the first innings and backed it up with 145 in the second.

Michael Clarke made a brave, unbeaten 161 in the first innings after being battered on the elbow and shoulder by the likes of Morne Morkel and co.

Ryan Harris and Mitchell Johnson led the Australian bowlers with seven wickets each for the match.

The victory meant the Aussies took the series 2-1 on the back of a successful Ashes campaign.

WHERE AND WHEN IS THE THIRD TEST?

The third test will be played at Newlands, Cape Town and will begin on March 22 at 10am local time and 7pm AEDT.

WHO HAVE AUSTRALIA PICKED FOR THE THIRD TEST?

Australia's likely third Test XI: Cameron Bancroft, David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith (c), Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh, Tim Paine (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.

Mitch Marsh and Mitchell Starc have looked to overcome minor groin and calf injuries and are set to take their places in Australia's XI. Cameron Bancroft has scored 120 runs throughout the series at an average of 30 but must make runs if he is to play the third Test.

South Africa likely third Test XI: Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Theunis de Bruyn/Temba Bavuma/Chris Morris, Vernon Philander, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi.

South Africa have brought in paceman Duanne Olivier and all-rounder Chris Morris for the final two Tests of the series. Theunis de Bruyn has struggled this series only making 58 runs and averaging 19.3 with Temba Bavuma and now Morris keeping the pressure on the incumbent number six.

KEY FACTS AHEAD OF THE THIRD TEST

1. The series stands at 1-1 after the Proteas’ victory in Port Elizabeth; another win in Cape Town will mean that South Africa have avoided a Test series defeat at home against Australia for only the second time in seven attempts.

2. None of the 13 previous Test matches played out between these sides at Newlands have ended in a draw; the Australians have won 10 of those games against the hosts.

3. South Africa have tasted defeat only once across their last 16 Test outings at Newlands; that defeat did come against Australia however in 2014.

4. Kagiso Rabada has taken 133 wickets in Tests since the start of 2016, 36 more than any other seamer in that time; he took 11 of those scalps last time out in Port Elizabeth against Australia, only once before has he ever managed better match figures in Test cricket.

5. Nathan Lyon could reach the 300 wicket milestone this Test match, he currently sits on 296 Test wickets.
