Australian T20 trio Travis Head, Alex Carey and D'Arcy Short have all been granted a release from the national squad so they can appear in Sunday's Big Bash final between the Hurricanes and Strikers.

Fast bowler Billy Stanlake wasn't quite so lucky and will have to stay with the national squad due to a "tougher workload".

The inclusion of Head in particular is a massive boost for the Strikers after he hit 85 runs in a semi-final against the Renegades to secure Adelaide's spot in the decider.

Short meanwhile is a welcome addition to the Hurricanes top order despite recent shaky form, with the opener hitting 96 the last time he faced the Strikers.

All three released players will fly to Adelaide from Sydney on Sunday morning after Australia's match with New Zealand on Saturday night, with the trio then expected to link back up with the national squad in Hobart on Monday.
