Afghanistan have lit up the 2023 World Cup well and truly after pulling off a stunning win over England on Sunday at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi.

In many ways, this win by the Afghans is monumental. They just overwhelmed the defending champions of the two white-ball World Cup titles.

And it was no tight game. England, current ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup champions, were ambushed by Hashmatullah Shahidi's side by a comprehensive margin of 69 runs.

The Afghani spinners, led by the irrepressible Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman, spun a web around the English batsmen who never could get away and build a sizeable partnership in their chase of 285.

How many matches have Afghanistan won in ODI World Cup history?

Afghanistan, who made their ODI World Cup debut in 2015, have not had a great time so far. The win over England was Afghanistan's second ever win in the tournament history.

Their first-ever win came in 2015 when they defeated Scotland who were not really the strongest cricket-playing nation.

Since then, they have been yearning for a ODI World Cup win and it finally came against England.
