Glenn Maxwell has been given another shot in an Australian shirt called up for the fifth and final ODI against England in Perth.

The 29-year-old short-form specialist was a surprise omission when the original squad for the series was announced with question marks over his fitness and relationship with captain Steve Smith.

But with a number of injuries and continued good form in the Big Bash, Australian selectors were forced into a rethink with Maxwell recalled for the fourth ODI, where he was left to carry the drinks, before being selected for Sunday's final ODI at the expense of Cameron White.

While often inconsistent in national colours, Maxwell has averaged 38 runs from his 80 ODIs to date for Australia with fans happy to see him eventually given another chance.

One disappointment however is the fact Maxwell will bat at number six for the match despite calls for him to move higher up the order.
