North Melbourne has reportedly made a huge offer to Collingwood midfielder Jordan De Goey.

The Herald Sun has said the Kangaroos have put a five-year, $5 million deal on the table for the 22-year-old as they continue their quest for a big-name signing.

It’s also believed St Kilda has made a similar offer to De Goey.

The Magpies will have trouble matching the amount as they juggle trying to satisfy other players coming out of contract this year such as Will Hoskin-Elliott, Darcy Moore and Jamie Elliott, while also trying to stay in the running to entice Gold Coast star Tom Lynch to the club.

De Goey started 2018 poorly even before a ball had been bounced, losing his driver’s licence for six months after blowing nearly twice the legal limit at a police breath test.

The incident followed a similarly bad pre-season in 2017 where he lied to the club about how he broke his hand, saying it was done while playing with his dog but later being exposed as having sustained the injury in a pub brawl.

However, his on-field form this year has been excellent and has many observers excited about the levels he could reach in the future.

Spending his time between the midfield and forward, De Goey is averaging 18 disposals and 1.7 goals a game this year, including bags of five and six.

North Melbourne has been trying to attract a big-name player to Arden Street for a while but has so far had no success after Richmond’s Dustin Martin and GWS’s Josh Kelly chose to re-sign with their current clubs last year.

It’s believed the Roos intend on launching another assault on Kelly, the son of Phil Kelly who played 61 games at North in the early 1980s, when the Giant’s latest contract runs out at the end of next season.
