Real Madrid and Manchester City wrote another chapter in their blossoming UEFA Champions League rivalry when they played out an exhilarating 3-3 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu in their quarterfinal first leg.

Federico Valverde's sublime volley for Madrid, after Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol had produced similarly high-quality strikes for City after halftime, left the quarterfinal dead even heading to Manchester for Thursday's (AEST) return clash.

City produced the best performance of their treble-winning season when they ran out 4-0 winners over Los Blancos at the Etihad Stadium in last season's semifinals. One key addition since then for Madrid will be aiming to make a difference.
