Teofimo Lopez and Jamaine Ortiz weigh in for world title bout
Mikey Williams/ Top Rank

Boxing looks to make an impact right before the Super Bowl, as Teofimo Lopez defends the WBO and The Ring super lightweight titles against Jamaine Ortiz on February 8. The fight in Las Vegas airs on ESPN+ in the U.S. Tickets are still available for the fight on StubHub.

Lopez is a former lightweight champion, holding the unified belts after beating Richard Commey and Vasiliy Lomachenko. After losing the titles against George Kambosos Jr., he moved to super lightweight. On a three-fight win streak, the 26-year-old beat former undisputed champion Josh Taylor in June for the WBO and Ring belts.

Ortiz beat Jamel Herring in 2022 for the NABF lightweight title, which initially forced Herring into retirement. He lost against Lomachenko in October 2022 but recovered in September, beating Antonio Moran. Facing some of the best in boxing but never fighting for a world title, Ortiz is finally ready to prove his value against Lopez.

“I’m no longer waiting,” Ortiz told Telegram via CES Boxing. “I’m out here initiating my next move. I’m calling these guys out. I’m tired of waiting.”
