Sam Goodman improved to 17-0 with a clinical unanimous decision win over Zhong Liu in Sydney on Friday night.

The Albion Park product put his number one ranking the super bantamwweight division on the line when taking on the previously undefeated Chinese fighter.

Goodman came away with a comfortable victory in a fight which lacked any real flashpoints, although much of that was down to the trickiness of Liu.

In the chief support, former world title challenger Liam Wilson did just enough to get past the ultra-tough Jackson England.

Wilson was a heavy favourite but England almost spoiled the party.

In what was could be best described as a highly technical brawl, the super featherweight pair put on a show for the crowd.

England started the brighter of the pair, proving elusive through the opening stages as he scored on the inside and at range.

The heavy-hitting Wilson began to find some joy through the middle rounds, opening up a nasty cut over England’s eye.

Both men had moments down the stretch but Wilson’s power began to slow England down.

In the end, Wilson got the nod via a close unanimous decision (96-94 x2, 97-93), but England gained plenty of respect for another all-action performance.

Following the result, Wilson called for a fight with countryman George Kambosos, confirming he’d move up to lightweight for the challenge.
