Social media has become a major part of the promotion game.
Opponents have a chance to interact with each other, albeit through a screen, engaging in back-and-forth smack talk to build up a fight. Boxers can showcase their personality to gain fans, increasing their popularity and with it, their value.
You can argue no boxer has benefited from the internet more than Ryan Garcia. The 25-year-old rose to fame thanks to YouTube and has vaulted himself to the top of the boxing world thanks to his immense online following. It also helps that he holds a record of 24-1, with his lone blemish being a loss to Gervonta Davis in a catchweight battle between two undefeated fighters in April of 2023.
Social media isn't always positive, however. A recent trend of Garcia's activities online has led to some fans worrying about his condition, and he took to social media again after news of his suspension on June 20.
Here is more to know about the social media situation with Garcia after his PED-related suspension, which also saw his recent win against Devin Haney overturned.

Ryan Garcia tweets timeline
Garcia has always been active on social media. The trainee of Derrick James has over 10 million followers on his Instagram with another 450,00-plus on X, formerly Twitter.
But since the calendar has turned to the new year, there's been a change in Garcia's social media presence.
It started with the news of Garcia's split with his wife. On Jan. 7, the boxer announced he was divorcing Andrea Celina, his wife of three years, in a since-deleted Instagram post. The news came an hour after Garcia posted about the birth of the pair's second child.
"As I step into a new chapter in my life, it's with a heavy heart to share that Drea and I have decided to divorce," Garcia wrote. "While this decision marks the end of our marriage, it's important to emphasize that our relationship as co-parents remains our top priority.
"Throughout our years together, Drea has been an incredible partner and an even more extraordinary mother to our two children. I'm deeply grateful for the years we shared and for her unwavering commitment to our family."
Ryan Garcia starts beef with Jake Paul
On Feb. 29, Garcia showed up an hour late to a press conference in Los Angeles for his fight with Haney. During the press conference, he looked to fight someone in the audience. Later in the day, he randomly posted a video from a sparring session of Haney, which was taken years ago. The following day, Garcia said he was "bringing truth and honesty into the world," but was upset that people thought he was a villain.
The shot from out of the blue came just three days after Garcia went on Ariel Helwani's MMA Hour and discussed his beef with Haney, Bernard Hopkins, UFC champion Sean O'Malley and actor Shia LaBeouf.
Despite his focus supposedly being on Haney, Garcia didn't waste a chance to take a shot at Jake Paul. After Paul's win against Ryan Bourland on March 3, Garcia called Paul out on social media. Paul responded at his post-fight press conference.
"Ryan, I love you, you know that bro, but you gotta chill out bro, because there's a line and you just seem like you're losing your mind, acting thirsty and desperate, and saying you're a billionaire when you've had one money fight. I'm just saying just chill bro," Paul said. "If you do want to fight, that's to me light work. You got no footwork and as long as you've been in the game, I'm a better boxer than you."
"Okay enough, it's on I’m going to have to do this!" Garcia tweeted in response. "I’m going to end this JAKE PAUL BOXING THING."
"BRING IT ON JAKE IM DEAD F—ING SERIOUS F‚ YOU! HIT MY TEAM UP."
Ryan would later post a cryptic message with the "666" symbol then delete it. However, did take to Instagram for another puzzling video that said, "THE DEATH OF RYAN GARCIA BILL HANEY WAS RIGHT ON THAT ONE."
The same night, Garcia's ex-wife expressed her concern for Ryan on social media. In an Instagram story, she said "I know in my heart he is being heavily oppressed. This is not a troll, [I'm] genuinely concerned and so is all his family members ...
"We are not part of any of this and want him to get better but this is REAL. Pray for him."
The next day, March 4, it appeared as though Garcia had taken the chance to explain everything that was going on. He posted a video on X with the caption, "Clearing things up," but the 53-second clip didn't do much other than leave more question marks about the situation.
“Hey guys. It’s me, Ryan. I'm coming on here to explain what's going on. I'm not in possession of my phone, I can't get access to my Instagram, my cards are locked, and I'm just being real taken advantage (of).
"I want to personally just send out a video to the people that love me and my fans, family that's concerned, that I'm okay. I’m not dead, I believe in Jesus. All those are lies and, you know… They tried to put me in jail, they're blocking my cards, I can't access my money, nobody's hitting me back. I don't know what's going on but just know I'm okay. Love.”
After the video, fans began reaching out to Garcia's father and coach, asking if all was right with the young boxer. Ryan's father responded to one user saying, "Yes Ryan is OK, he's just trolling the wrong way."
Ryan Garcia discusses Bohemian Grove
The "trolling" continued into March 5. Garcia apparently appeared on an X Spaces stream with Andrew Tate, a controversial online figure. In his rant, Garcia discussed disturbing things that he was forced to watch by "elites" from Bohemian Grove.
Boxer Ryan Garcia claims 'the elites' tied him up in the woods and forced him to watch little kids getting raped. "Bohemian Grove is real." He held the World Boxing Council (WBC) interim lightweight title in 2021. As of May 2023, he is ranked as the world's fourth-best active… pic.twitter.com/zt9ai80AoW

The next day, Garcia continued giving his thoughts on Bohemian Grove, which is a home to a men's-only club in Sonoma County, California. He spent over an hour posting vague and mysterious messages, over 30 in total, about his alleged incident with the group.
After a two-hour absence from the platform, Garcia returned to state that he would not be "speaking or tweeting or writing anything" other than his upcoming fight, boxing topics and other sports.
I Ryan Garcia, will not be speaking or tweeting or writing anything other then My Fight “Boxing” and Sports.
— RYAN GARCIA (@RyanGarcia) March 6, 2024
All topics of discussion will be discussed after my fight 🥊 5 weeks of focus.
You have my word I’m locked in I’ll see you 4-20
He then proceeded to conduct a Q&A session on X. Garcia answered questions about his thoughts on the upcoming Anthony Joshua-Francis Ngannou fight, a potential fight with Paul and his choice of walkout music.
Garcia posted a number of times between March 7 and March 11, but it consisted mostly of training videos, a comparison between boxing and MMA and posts about God.
Ryan Garcia slams Logan Paul's PRIME drink
On March 12, the boxer posted "#FreeTateBrothers" likely in reference to Andrew and Tristan Tate, who were recently arrested in Romania under a warrant in the United Kingdom.
The same day, Garcia began a tirade bashing PRIME, the hydration drink created by Logan Paul. In multiple posts, Garcia claimed that the energy beverage kills people and advised anyone with financial ties to PRIME to "get out."
The next day, Haney decided to troll Garcia back. After the 25-year-old's rant about PRIME, Haney announced he had agreed to a new partnership with Paul and the beverage.
Of course, Garcia did not waste the chance to fire back at Haney.
Does not surprise me

Who else would satan support other then Devil Haney. More confirmation.
Yall support this I’m out. Kids are in danger from drinking this “allegedly” https://t.co/k8ZPhIEglQ
Ryan Garcia accuses Victor Conte, Devin Haney of cheating
Starting on March 13 and going into the early hours of March 14, Garcia took shots at Victor Conte, the founder of BALCO Laboratories and current CEO of SNAC System, Inc. It came after Haney posted that he had completed a clean drug test and tagged Conte.
Garcia accused Conte of cheating and said that he is Haney's "drug supplier" implying that Haney was taking some sort of banned substances, despite the clean results.
Garcia then started giving out predictions for the fight between himself and Haney. However, his projections weren't about what round he would knock his opponent down, or even the method of victory. Instead, Garcia started comparing himself to Mike Tyson and said he was going to bite both Haney's ears off, in reference to Tyson biting Evander Holyfield's ear in their infamous rematch in 1997. Garcia also said Haney would need police protection for the fight.
As of now, the fight with Haney is still on. However, this whole saga has taken a strange turn, with Garcia's demeanor online seemingly changing by the hour. Boxing fans will have to wait and see if Garcia steps into the ring.
Ryan Garcia addresses 'prediction' of Baltimore bridge collapsing
Garcia can't seem to stay out of his own way ahead of the big fight against Haney.
On March 27, the internet resurfaced one of Garcia's previously deleted posts that stated, "SOMETHING BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN BALTIMORE MARYLAND ON MARCH 26TH 2024."
Ironically, on March 26, a cargo ship lost power and slammed into the support beam of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, causing the bridge to collapse.
Garcia posted a few thoughts on the video of the bridge collapsing, before responding to the speculation surrounding his previously deleted post.
As people know during that time when I was tweeting and writing a bunch of stuff.
— RYAN GARCIA (@RyanGarcia) March 27, 2024
My tweets were constantly getting deleted and I was showing proof.
I will say that it is not me who knows but God, the Holy Spirit speaking thru me.
There is times I forget what I say, like I… https://t.co/Hrhu5GZGG3
He followed up by posting, "I was getting tweets deleted as soon as they went out at that time when I was truly going off." His point on the matter is unclear.
Garcia also hosted a Spaces on X titled "Deleted Tweets — Censorship" where he continued to address the issues he claims to have been having with his account.
This is just the latest in a long series of unfortunate social media decisions for the 25-year-old boxer.
Ryan Garcia tweets he plans to 'Kill Devil Haney'
Garcia isn't hiding what his intentions are for Haney in their upcoming bout — he tweeted that he wants to "kill" his opponent, referring to Haney as "Devil Haney" in his latest posts on X.
Garcia also brought up that Haney hasn't spoken out against Sean "Diddy" Combs, who is facing sex-trafficking allegations. Garcia has been outspoken on this matter recently.
New York boxing commission evaluation
Garcia's social media posts have drawn the attention of the New York boxing commission. In a video posted to X, Garcia explained he has been told he needs to pass a mental health evaluation before his fight with Haney.
Garcia also reportedly deleted his X account following his video during which he threatened to sue the commission for defamation.
"Is it not my US constitutional right to have free speech? Because I'm tweeting what I'm tweeting that's premise for a mental evaluation?" Garcia said. "That's curious, so now you're trying to mess with my constitutional rights."
The NY boxing commission is now requesting Ryan Garcia passes a mental health evaluation for his bout on April 20th against Devin Haney to go ahead. Garcia has responded explosively and also deleted his X account. pic.twitter.com/ITh5YRX6Hf

The Ryan Garcia and Alycia Baumgardner beef
It's safe to say that Garcia and undisputed super featherweight champ Alycia Baumgardner won't be sending each other Christmas cards.
Seemingly dismissive of Garcia's histrionics, Baumgardner took to Twitter (X) to voice her dismay at the young Californian's behaviour, labelling him "Delusional" and "Goofy".
Never one to shy away from a social media scuffle, "KingRy" fired back and the touch paper was lit.
"Nah you know what's goofy is you tested positive for steroids," said Garcia in reference to Baumgardner failing a test before a points win over Christina Linardatou in August.
Per Drug Free Sport, Baumgardner tested positive for the banned substances Mesterolone and Primobolan. She has since been cleared of any intentional wrongdoing by the WBC.
Baumgardner later stated on Twitter that she'd blocked Garcia from the platform.
Garcia launches X-rated tirade at the New York Mets
Shortly after the grand arrivals at the Empire State Building in fight week, Haney and Garcia headed off to Citi Field in Flushing, Queens, at the invitation of the New York Mets.
The fighters were scheduled to throw out the first pitch in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, due to a brief and relatively tame scuffle at the grand arrivals, the Mets' brain trust decided to cancel those plans in case there was a similar incident.
This didn't go over well with Garcia, who took to Twitter (X) and blasted the team's decision to eject the fighters from the stadium.

Ryan Garcia cleared to fight by the New York boxing commission
Despite the concerns surrounding Garcia's social media theatrics, the challenger announced that he was cleared to compete by the NYSAC on Tuesday of fight week.
"Just got cleared from the commission to fight after the evaluation and drug test," said Garcia on April 16. "LETS GO!! I'm so happy. THANK YOU JESUS!"
The fact that the challenger tested negative on drug tests carried about by VADA is likely to have played a part in that decision. This is a WBC world title bout, so both fighters were obligated to sign up for that organization's Clean Boxing Program.
Ryan Garcia touches base with influencer Andrew Tate again
Garcia has reached out to controversial online personality Andrew Tate again.
In early March, the pair had a conversation about the Bohemian Grove on an X Spaces stream. Garcia revealed that he'd been a victim of child abuse and was clearly distressed during the discussion.
On Wednesday of fight week, Tate, who is awaiting trial in Romania on charges of sex trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group, had this to say: "IM MAKING BABIES ALL WEEK SORRY FOR SLOW REPLIES."
In response, Garcia, who had just taken part in a media workout in New York reposted Tate's message and added, "Bro you gotta be my little brother cause that’s some s___ I would say LETS GO!"
It's worth pointing out that Tate is 12 years older than Garcia.
A few moments later, the fighter sent another tweet to no one in particular: "JUST KIDDING I'M CELIBATE"
Ryan Garcia isn't bothered after missing weight for Haney fight
Friday brought the weigh-ins for the fight between Garcia and Haney, and it did not go as planned for the young boxer. Garcia missed weight by 3.2 pounds, weighing in well over the 140 limit.
As expected, Garcia took to social media to air out his thoughts, and he did not seem bothered one bit about missing the chance to win Haney's WBC super lightweight title. He bragged about having a three-pound advantage on Haney and that "winners do what they have to do."
He also poised the question, "Why would I force myself to make weight so I can be weak", while also insinuating that he gained weight in his back from "carrying the promo" and his fingers from "all the tweets."
The fight went ahead as planned, with Garcia handing Haney his first career loss. But the result was overturned on June 20 when Garcia was suspended one year for a positive PED test.
Ryan Garcia addresses positive PED test, suspension
Garcia took to social media on June 20, amid the news of the overturned result against Haney and his one-year suspension after his positive PED test, to discuss the developments.
"F— YOU CRY BABY B—," Garcia tweeted, with an image of his fight against Haney. Haney formally requested that his loss to Garcia be overturned as a result of Garcia's failed doping test.
Garcia insisted nothing was in his system during the fight, also writing: "This is why I'm done with the game." Garcia said he was "officially retired" a day before the announcement.
The boxer reiterated that he was done with the sport Thursday, tweeting: "I'm headed to the UFC" and imploring UFC president Dana White to "hit me up."
White might have other ideas, but Garcia will have to stay away from boxing for a year after his victory over Haney was stripped in the latest twist surrounding the 25-year-old's career.
Ryan Garcia expelled by WBC
Garcia was expelled by the World Boxing Council on July 4 for his use of slurs during a livestream.
Exercising my authority as president of the WBC, I am hereby expelling Ryan Garcia from any activity with our organization,” WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman posted, adding that the organization rejects discrimination in any form.
Garcia addressed the decision with an apology, tweeting that he was just "trolling" and adding, "I love everyone sorry if I offended you," but the tweet was later deleted.
Garcia didn't immediately address his expulsion in any other way, but the decision came just two weeks after he was suspended from boxing for a year over a positive PED test and announced he was retired from the sport.
Ryan Garcia enters rehab
Garcia did not take to Twitter, but rather TikTok to tell the world that he is entering rehab. After months of turmoil, the boxer admitted that he needed to seek guidance, and plans on entering into a rehabilitation center for help.

"I finally decided to get some help, I'm going to rehab. In the next couple of months you're gonna see a change."
This comes on the heels after an altercation with Andrea Celina, his ex-wife of three years. The boxer allegedly broke into the house that the two used to live in and trashed the place after he accused Celina of cheating on him.
