Recently, boxing’s best have competed in exhibition bouts. From Floyd Mayweather to Ricky Hatton, the past has returned from retirement to entertain fans. Eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao will be joining in on the fun. 

Pacquiao, the former Senator of the Philippines, faces DK Yoo on December 10 from inside the Korea International Exhibition Center in South Korea. The fight will be a six-round affair. 

Making his pro debut in 1995 at 16, Pacquiao won gold at flyweight, super-bantamweight, featherweight, super-featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, light-welterweight, and super-welterweight. Pacquiao was on a three-fight win streak before he was scheduled to face Errol Spence Jr. An eye injury forced Spence out of the bout, and Pacquiao fought Yordenis Ugas for the WBA (Super) welterweight title in August 2021. 

Ugas beat Pacquaio via unanimous decision, and Pacquaio retired shortly after. 

“This exhibition fight is a charity event,” Pacquiao said at a press conference, via Inquirer. “This is to help those who are in need, for us to be able to build homes for our fellow Filipinos who have none. It’s always been my dream to help others. That’s really my advocacy, to be able to give houses to our fellow Filipinos.”

DK Yoo is a self-defense instructor. He has over 655K YouTube subscribers. Yoo uses his page to teach various martial arts and boxing moves via the Warfare Combat System. The 42-year-old has competed in one exhibition fight. It was a non-scored bout in 2021 against MMA fighter Bradley Scott. 

"Obviously, I realize Pacquiao will be the heavy favorite," said Yoo, via The Korea Times. "But I am bigger, and I hope to take advantage of that. I am not thinking about the result right now. My goal is to train hard and show a great athlete like Pacquiao what I am capable of."

When did Manny Pacquiao retire from boxing?

Pacquiao's past pro fight took place in August 2021. He fought Yordenis Ugas for the WBA (Super) welterweight title, losing via unanimous decision. 

After taking some time to reflect, Pacquiao announced he was retiring and would be running for President of the Philippines in 2022.
