Frank Sanchez is among the best heavyweights in the world but it only took one sparring session with Justis Huni for him to give the Aussie a wide berth in the gym.

Sanchez, 30, is ranked in the top five with two of boxing's governing bodies on the back of a 21-0 professional record.

Huni was fortunate enough to cross paths with Sanchez while on a recent five-week training camp in Los Angeles ahead of his fight with Kiki Leutele in Brisbane this Friday.

Justin Fortune, the former trainer of Manny Pacquiao tasked with turning Huni into a world title contender, told Sporting News about the 23-year-old's time under him in LA.

"He was all over Frank Sanchez," Fortune said.

"After the first sparring, Frank Sanchez didn't really want anything to do with him

"Justis was all over him. Too many punches. He throws too many punches and he's too fast. That's it.

"Frank Sanchez is a good fighter, he's ranked so he's obviously a good fighter.

"Everything sort of fell into place with this camp with the sparring."

Fortune, who is now based in LA, has returned to his native Australia to corner Huni for the first time in his fight with Leutele.

After a decorated amateur career, Huni has compiled a 6-0 record as a professional but critics suggest he needs to add fight-ending power to his arsenal if he's to compete with the best.

Fortune believes Huni is making significant progress and is looking at the Leutele fight as a chance to showcase what he's been working on.

"We're out there to make a statement," Fortune said.

"He didn't spend five weeks in LA and for me to come all the way down here not to make a statement.

"He's very strong and very fast. That's a deadly combination.

"It's the heavyweight division. Nobody wants to see another heavyweight boxer, they want blood and knockouts, that's all they want from the heavyweights.

"He's turned a corner. A few more fights, he'll definitely be a force to be reckoned with, that's for sure.

"He's only 23, imagine when he's 26. He'll be icing people left, right and centre."

Huni's promoter Dean Lonergan has made no secret of his plans for the Queenslander, believing he can position him for a world title shot in the next 12-18 months.

Leutele and his team feel the Huni camp is overlooking them and they're keen to spoil the party.

"We’re coming to win, that’s what people don’t get, we’re here to win," Leutele's coach Isaac Peach told Sporting News.

"We’re here to knock Justis out, we’re not here to make up the numbers.

"They’re looking five fights ahead, which is stupid. We’re looking at this fight, this is everything for us."

Catch Huni vs. Leutele at Brisbane's Nissan Arena on Friday, November 4.
