Fans zero in on Oscar de la Hoya's commentary image

Boxing legend Oscar de la Hoya was turnt up when he put the headphones on to commentate the undercard of Jake Paul's fight with Ben Askren in Atlanta.

De la Hoya, who is reportedly making a boxing comeback after a 13-year retirement, was excitable and slurring his words as he commentated on former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir's bout with boxing veteran Steve Cunningham.

Cunningham is a former navy serviceman whose nickname is 'USS'. De la Hoya repeatedly called him 'USSR'

The former 11-time world champion was also overheard in between rounds saying "put my face on screen more" and told Mike Tyson - who wasn't in the arena - that he loved him.

In another classic giveaway that he was inebriated, de la Hoya also started calling everyone 'baby.'

"Just go hard, baby," de la Hoya said as the bout entered the last round.

"Think about a fighter's life. Do you want to fight, or do you want to fold?

"Let's go, baby. This is all you have, baby. Let's go. Baby, you're getting hit anyway, might as well go out on your shield, baby."

One of de la Hoya's co-commentators summed up his performance perfectly: "Oscar's hyped!"

The Golden Boy was quick to offer words of advice and encouragement too.

De la Hoya's performance was quickly noticed by Twitter.

While there was a comical touch to the reaction to de la Hoya's commentary, his extensive past of substance abuse issues was a cause for concern.

De la Hoya was absent from commentary when the next fight between Regis Prograis and Ivan Redkach started, replaced by Snoop Dogg.
