Jai Opetaia is the new IBF cruiserweight champion of the world after an epic unanimous decision (116-112 x2, 115-113) win over Mairis Briedis on the Gold Coast on Saturday night.
The Aussie showed no signs of nerves in his first title fight, starting the stronger of the pair as he controlled the bout superbly.
Briedis wouldn't die wondering however and found his range later in the fight, timing Opetaia with power right hands and uppercuts.
Opetaia said his jaw was broken by an uppercut in the second round before another shot in the 11th aggravated it further.
Incredibly, he was able to tough it out to the final bell and become Australia's only male world title holder.
Five years to the day since Jeff Horn upset Manny Pacquiao in Brisbane, Australia has another world champion.
Take a look at our round-by-round wrap below.
Opetaia vs. Briedis live results, updates
Follow along with our unofficial scorecard.
Round 12: A close final round but Briedis takes it with the greater activity. The Aussie should get the nod here.
SN unofficial scorecard: 10-9 Briedis (116-112 Opetaia)
Round 11: Another round for Briedis. He's timing the counter uppercut and power right well now. We were told Opetaia had a granite chin and it's been on display these past two rounds. If Opetaia can get to the bell, he should win. 10-9 Briedis (107-102 Opetaia)
Round 10: Big round for the champion. He's not going down without a fight. Briedis lands a couple of good right hands a flush uppercut which Opetaia eats well. The Aussie looked to fade slightly in that round. 10-9 Briedis (98-92 Opetaia)
Round 9: Opetaia rebounds well in the ninth. Close round but Opetaia the more active fighter. Briedis' right hand still the threat and he's still got plenty of heat behind. 10-9 Opetaia (89-82 Opetaia)
Round 8: By far Briedis' best round of the fight so far. Lands a series of power shots early on which definitely got Opetaia's attention but he had his wits about him quickly. Clear round for the champion. 10-9 Briedis (79-73 Opetaia)
Round 7: Briedis enjoys a nice little period in the middle of the round but Opetaia comes back with interest. Another left straight down the middle was probably the most significant punch of the fight but Briedis again clinches up. 10-9 Opetaia (70-63 Opetaia)
Round 6: Briedis' nose is pouring blood. The Latvian is struggling to get inside and Opetaia is controlling distance well. Backs him up several times again. 10-9 Opetaia (60-54 Opetaia)
Round 5: Opetaia is busting Briedis up. The Aussie is putting on a clinic as it stands. Landing jabs and finishing slick combos with left hands upstairs. 10-9 Opetaia (50-45 Opetaia)
Round 4: Huge round for Opetaia. Stuns Briedis late on with a left down the pipe but the Latvian is able to clinch and hold on for the round. Opetaia appears to have the edge when they box at range. A lead uppercut also found the target for Opetaia. 10-9 Opetaia (40-36 Opetaia)
Round 3: A close round but we give it to Opetaia again. Landed a nie counter hook but ate a right hand shortly after before giving a straight left right back. Had more joy with the uppercut. Briedis looks most comfortable when they trade in the pocket. 10-9 Opetaia (30-27 Opetaia)
Round 2: Another solid round for the local boy. Backs Briedis up with a 1-2 and times a solid uppercut counter. 10-9 Opetaia (20-18 Opetaia)
Round 1: Opetaia the more active of the pair in the opening round. The Aussie appears to be moving well and settling in to the fight well. Briedis looks to mount some attack later in the round but Opetaia avoids well. 10-9 Opetaia
