Hasim Rahman Jr vs. Vitor Belfort: Date, venue, titles, tickets and pro records ahead of boxing match featuring ex-UFC heavyweight image

When Hasim Rahman Jr's boxing bout with Jake Paul was called off because of a weight dispute, it added a final touch of farce to the latest novelty event scheduled between two stars whose profile owes less to their work inside the ring than it does their reputation and smack-talking.

There was another twist for Rahman, who has more of a credible claim to be a serious boxer than Paul: the son of the former world title holder he is named after set up an improbable fight against Vitor Belfort.

Former UFC light-heavyweight and middleweight Belfort is fighting Rahman as part of YouTuber, musician and fighter KSI's Misfits Boxing promotion, which appears to be living up to its name with its latest eye-raising contest.

The Sporting News takes a look at the details of the showdown, how to watch it and the adversaries' records.

Hasim Rahman Jr. career record, titles won

It would be impossible to consider Rahman's path to professional status without mentioning his father, a heavyweight whose finest hour came when he knocked out Lennox Lewis to win the WBC, IBF, and IBO titles from the man who was arguably the greatest British boxer of all time.

That stunning result in 2001 was followed by revenge for Lewis later that year, and Rahman continued to put together sequences of wins in between defeats to the likes of Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin.

Rahman Jr was unbeaten in 11 fights and had recorded six knockouts before he challenged for the WBC version of the US belt his father once won.

In his ninth fight in his homeland — the rest have all been in Mexico — Rahman Jr was stopped by the referee after being knocked down for a second time by James Morrison in Las Vegas.

The 31-year-old is a social media celebrity, amassing more than 241,000 followers on Instagram, and appears to be ready to mix disciplines to further his career.

In one social media announcement, Rahman Jr said he wants "all the smoke" and defended his record when a critic claimed he had been floored by six of his amateur opponents.

"I never touched the canvas until my last fight," fired back Rahman Jr. "I'm a prizefighter, dummy. I'm going to fight for the biggest prize I can."

His meeting with Belfort, who has more than 1.3 million Instagram followers, could hint at where his fighting future lies.

Despite proclaiming that boxing is superior to MMA, Rahman Jr has publicly told US MMA promotion the Professional Fighters League that he wants to feature on their events.

Vitor Belfort career record, titles won

Belfort's professional MMA career lasted even longer than the near-20 years Rahman senior spent in boxing, with the powerhouse known as 'The Phenom' fighting between 1996 and 2018.

The Brazilian made his UFC debut in 1997 and won the light heavyweight title in 2004, although his victim, Randy Couture, gained revenge later the same year.

Time with promotions including Pride and Cage Rage followed between 2005 and 2009, Belfort returning to the UFC to lose to Anderson Silva in a middleweight contest.

An unsuccessful challenge for his old title against Jon Jones in 2012 preceded a knockout victory over Michael Bisping in Sao Paulo the following year.

When he announced his UFC retirement after his final MMA fight in May 2018, Belfort had a record of 26 wins from 41 bouts, including 18 knockouts.

Belfort had won his only previous official boxing match when he beat Josemario Neves in Brazil in 2006, and his return to pugilism came against legend of the ring Evander Holyfield in Florida in September 2021.

In the follow-up event to promoters Triller's nostalgia-clad exhibition between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr, Belfort beat Holyfield in the first round as pay-per-view buyers had the privilege of watching rapper Snoop Dogg's analysis and having the option to listen to commentary by former US president Donald Trump.

The brutal nature of Belfort's beating of a clearly faded Holyfield led to more concerns in some quarters about the safety and necessity of sanctioning official fights involving hugely rusty or inexperienced participants.
