All-action British heavyweight Derek Chisora will end a six-year wait for a shot at revenge when he takes on former world-title challenger Kubrat Pulev at the O2 Arena.

Chisora dropped a split decision to Pulev when the pair clashed in Hamburg for the vacant European heavyweight title in May 2016.

That was Chisora’s sixth career defeat, a tally that has doubled in the interim period, although it speaks volumes of the 38-year-old’s unflinching performances and status as a compelling figure in and out of the ring that calls for retirement have not been universal.

Those losses have tended to come against heavyweights of an elite level, however, and Pulev belongs in that bracket unless age has diminished the 41-year-old significantly.

Chisora has been bullish in the face of any suggestion he should hang up his gloves, although it is hard to escape the impression that one of British boxing’s great cult heroes of the 21st century will be fighting for his future in the sport in London.

Where is Derek Chisora vs. Kubrat Pulev taking place?

The heavyweight showdown will take place at the O2 Arena.

The London venue has proved to be a happy hunting ground for Chisora, who won five out of six in a run of consecutive fights in Greenwich.

That streak included eye-catching stoppage wins over Carlos Takam, Artur Szpilka and David Price, although he was stopped by a chilling uppercut in the 11th round of his barnstorming rematch with Dillian Whyte in December 2018.

Since his O2 Arena run, Chisora is 0-3 through fights with unified heavyweight champion Olesksandr Usyk and a double-header with Joseph Parker.

Pulev's only previous outing in London came when he was battered to a ninth-round defeat at Wembley Arena by Anthony Joshua, marking a second unsuccessful tilt at world honours.

Derek Chisora vs. Kubrat Pulev 2 betting odds

Although Chisora has shared the ring with almost every heavyweight of note in his era and is the younger man, Pulev having comparatively fewer miles on the clock counts in his favour with Sky Bet.

Wladimir Klitschko and Joshua are the only fighters to have beaten the Bulgarian and Chisora is not in the class of the two former unified world champions, explaining why he is cast once again in the now-familiar role of underdog.
