David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant undercard: Complete list of fights before 2023 boxing match image

Only the place known as “Sin City” could hold a fight as heated as David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant. Looking to face super-middleweight king Canelo Alvarez, Benavidez and Plant face off on March 25.

The fight for the interim WBC super-middleweight title will be inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena. In the U.S., the bout airs on Showtime.

Benavidez, a former WBC super-middleweight champion, is as dangerous as they come. He averages the fourth-most total punches landed per round with 25.6 and is ranked first in total connect percentage at 38.4%. The 26-year-old believes that will give him the edge against Plant.

“Some people don’t understand that I’m the most accurate puncher in this weight class,” Benavidez stated. "I’ve had 23 knockouts in 26 fights. I’ve hurt every man I’ve been in the ring with, and Caleb Plant is no different. You can see that every time Caleb is in the ring with a power puncher, he’s not comfortable... I’ve got the power, and I feel like I’m faster. I just have to get my feet in the right position, because he’s going to be moving a lot. I think he has a little bit more confidence after beating Dirrell though, so we’ll see if he wants to trade with me.”

A former IBF super-middleweight champion, Plant rebounded from a Canelo loss against Anthony Dirrell in October. While Benavidez has the striking power, Plant's opposition lands the sixth-fewest total punches per round with 7.3. Looking to neutralize Benavidez, “Sweethands” is ready for whatever comes his way.

“If Benavidez wants to come forward, then he should just handle his business how he sees fit,” Plant stated. “That’s what I’m going to do on March 25. We’re going to get in there, roll the dice and see what happens. My power has always been there, but I’ve been getting more back to my roots."

It looks to be a firefight. Outside the main event, family and young stars are ready to fight on a big stage. Here is a look at the entire main card of Benavidez vs. Plant.

  • Ramos record: 27-5-2

“After years of hard work and dedication, I’m thrilled to be fighting back on the big stage for this fight,” Crowley said. “I have succeeded in overcoming obstacles and adversity, and Abel Ramos will not be able to stop me from achieving my dream of becoming world champion. I’m dedicating this fight to my father’s memory and to all of those who have worked diligently to help me succeed against all odds.”

Ramos (27-5-2) turned pro in 2011 and had a 16-fight unbeaten streak snapped against Regis Prograis in 2015. After trading wins and losses, going on an eight-fight win streak at one point, Yordeis Ugas halted his momentum in 2020. Since then, Ramos beat Omar Figueroa Jr. in 2021. However, Ramos recently lost to Luke Santamaria in February 2022.

“The key for this fight is going to be to use the experience that I have and every trick that I know,” Ramos said. “I’m expecting an exciting fight. I’ve fought everybody since the beginning. I have a lot of rounds inside of the ring, and I just have to make sure that I use everything I know in this fight. I really think that my resume and the opposition that I’ve fought, compared to Crowley, is going to be the biggest factor. I’ve got way more experience, and it’s going to show on March 25. I’m predicting a win however it comes.”

Jesus Ramos vs. Joseph Spencer

  • Division/Weight: Super-Welterweight
  • Ramos record: 19-0
  • Spencer record: 16-0
  • Belts at stake: N/A

Abel is the uncle of Jesus Ramos, who faces Joseph Spencer in super-welterweight action. Jesus (19-0) turned pro in 2018 and started his run with nine wins in a row via knockout. He won two fights in a row in 2022, beating Vladimir Hernandez for WBC gold. Ramos avenged Abel by beating Santamaria in May.

“This is a huge opportunity for me,” Ramos stated. “I feel like so far in my career, I’ve taken big steps and faced tough opponents, and this won’t be an exception. It’s going to be a great fight. I feel like I do a lot of things well. My reach, my conditioning, the body shots that I throw, it’s all going to be important on fight night. I’ve been working hard with my strength and conditioning coach. We’re working on being more explosive and throwing more punches. We want to really increase the pace of the fight.”

Spencer (16-0) turned pro in 2018. The 22-year-old also fought twice in 2022, beating Ravshan Hudaynazarov and Kevin Salgado Zambrano via unanimous decision.

  • Division/Weight: Lightweight
  • Colbert record: 16-1
  • Valenzuela record: 12-1
  • Belts at stake: N/A

Rounding out the fight card is Chris Colbert vs. Jose Valenzuela. Colbert (16-1) turned pro in 2015 and primarily fought in Pennsylvania and Brooklyn. Considered a top title contender at one point, Colbert lost against Hector Luis Garcia in an upset in February 2022.

A win against Valenzuela is one Colbert needs to win to reclaim his spot as a top prospect-turned-contender.

Valenzuela (12-1) is also looking for a rebound win. The 23-year-old turned pro in 2018. He lost the WBC Continental Americas lightweight title in his last bout, a knockout loss against Edwin De Los Santos in September.

“I learned from my mistakes, and I’m gonna come back right,” Valenzuela stated. "Chris Colbert is a smart fighter, and I think it’s a perfect matchup for this card. I know what I did wrong, and I accepted it. I have to keep moving forward. I’ve got a great team around me, and we stayed positive. I wasn’t looking for an easy way out coming in off a loss. I didn’t get here the easy way, so I’m going to keep doing it the hard way."
