A fight featuring two of the top boxers within their division takes place on September 30, as Canelo Alvarez puts his status as undisputed super middleweight champion on the line against undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo

The fight airs on Showtime PPV and is the first men's undisputed vs. undisputed bout in the four-belt era.

It took Canelo eleven months to become undisputed at 168 lbs following a long run at middleweight. He beat Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant to hold all the gold.

Since November 2021, he's only fought three times, going 2-1, and has recently recovered from hand surgery. Despite that, the Mexican superstar believes he is ready for this eagerly awaited clash of champions.

“Jermell is a great fighter, and this is a fight that’s been out there as a possibility for a long time,” Canelo said at a pre-fight press conference. “Now is the correct time for this fight.

"It’s good that people are saying I’ve lost a step. It’s fine. I know why I didn’t look as good in my last two fights. I know why, and I’m different now. I’m preparing now for a different type of fighter."

Charlo had a different path to the top. He beat John Jackson in 2016 for the WBC super welterweight title, lost it against Tony Harrison in 2018 and won it back in a 2019 rematch.

"Iron Man" beat Jeison Rosario in 2020 for the WBA, IBF, and Ring super welterweight titles. In an attempt to become undisputed, he faced WBO champion Brian Castano in 2021, fighting to a split-decision draw. In the rematch in May 2022, Charlo beat Castano with a vicious 10th-round knockout.

After recovering from a broken hand, Charlo could have faced WBO mandatory challenger Tim Tszyu. He will be stripped of that belt the moment he steps into the ring to face Canelo.

“Now is the right time for this fight. We’re in our primes and at our best,” Charlo said at a media workout. “I wanna shake the doubters off and prove to the world why I’m in this position. There’s a reason I made it this far. I’m gonna show what I’m made of. Everything I’ve done since I was eight years old, I’m putting it all on the line now.”
