Basketball fans online were shocked today, when a photo surfaced showing married WNBA stars Diana Taurasi and Penny Taylor alongside the Sandringham Sabres senior women's team.
According to the post from the Southern Basketball Association, Taurasi and Taylor were in attendance for the team's training.
Taurasi was last year named the WNBA’s Greatest of all Time by WNBA fans and is also the league's all-time leading scorer, as well as a three-time champion and two-time league MVP.
Taylor, who is from Melbourne, has also had a storied professional career, a three-time champion, and three-time All-Star, even being named to the All-WNBA First Team in 2007.
Taylor’s sister, Heather Taylor, is an assistant coach for the Sabres, which could explain the surprise visit from the WNBA GOAT.
It was also announced today that a documentary about Taurasi’s life is currently in production from Skydance Sports and Meadowlark.

According to the release blurb, the film will be “The definitive and authorized chronicle of the remarkable life and career of Diana Taurasi, the most accomplished player in the history of women’s basketball… and one of the most charismatic, yet private icons in all of sport.”
Skydance Sports - one of the companies behind the documentary - is helmed by Jon Weinbach, who was a producer on the hit ESPN docu-series ‘The Last Dance’, and also directed the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary Sole Man.
Hopefully, we get a ‘Trip to Sandringham’ section of the film.
