Surprise performers

Good: Indians outfielder Michael Brantley is now riding a 10-game hit streak after a slow start mired by injury. He's 15 for 37 with three home runs and 10 RBI during that span.

Bad: Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw allowed five earned runs on eight hits and issued four walks in just 5 2/3 innings of work. Los Angeles still won the game, but Kershaw is now carrying a worrisome 4.26 ERA on the season.

Facts of the day

A look ahead:

(All times Eastern)

Braves (14-17) at Reds (15-16) 7:10 p.m.: Shelby Miller returns to the mound for Atlanta after his 99-pitch complete game in his last outing. Both teams have struggled to gain any momentum, and could use this series to do just that.

Yankees (20-12) at Rays (17-15) 7:10 p.m.: The Rays will send Alex Colome to face off against a struggling C.C. Sabathia, who is currently sporting a 5.45 ERA. The Yankees have impressed in the early-going with an aging lineup, while the Rays continue to win with timely hits and solid pitching.

Mets (20-11) at Cubs (15-15) 8:10 p.m.: This series is enticing on paper, and should produce on the diamond as well. Both teams are filled with young stars that have been largely successful in the big leagues. The Cubs' pitching has been a little suspect, but ace Jon Lester is on the mound Monday.
