Marlins' Jarred Cosart denies ever betting on baseball image

Marlins pitcher Jarred Cosart was unequivocal Wednesday as he addressed the controversy over gambling-related comments he made on social media.

"I never have, never will bet on baseball," he told reporters, according to The Associated Press.

Cosart drew attention after he tweeted about advice he’d received from a gambling tout. He later deleted the account, and Major League Baseball subsequently opened an investigation. An MLB spokesman told the AP the probe is ongoing. Cosart told reporters he is cooperating.

"Still following the MLB protocol. Hoping that everything gets done by opening day," Cosart said, per the AP.

The Marlins acquired Cosart last July 31 in a trade with the Astros. He is expected to be in Miami's rotation this season.
