The sister of Collingwood star Travis Varcoe has passed away in hospital after an accident in a football game at the weekend.

Maggie Varcoe had been playing in the Adelaide Football League grand final for Angle Vale when she copped a head knock in a collision with a teammate.

She reportedly collapsed following the match, being taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital where she remained in a coma until she passed awat on Thursday.

The 27-year-old spent her final days surrounded by family, including brother Travis.

After spending time in Adelaide, Varcoe made his way back to Melbourne on Wednesday where his teammates rallied around the forward.

Coach Nathan Buckley said the club were doing all they could to support the 30-year-old.

"We’ll support Trav as much as we possibly can," Buckley told Fox Sports earlier in the week.

"He’s a very private person and he would have rather dealt with this privately. The fact that it’s in the public forum now is no longer in his control.

"But we’ll support him as much as we can."
