Tom Wilkinson: The Amazing Race call up sees North Melbourne rookie leave the club image

North Melbourne rookie Tom Wilkinson has left the club in order to take part in reality television show The Amazing Race.

According to AFL.com.au, Wilkinson and the son of Paul Roos, Tyler, jetted off on Monday to begin filming the show.

The pair were teammates at Southport in the NEAFL prior to Wilkinson being picked up in the rookie draft.

Wilkinson reportedly approached the club recently about the opportunity, with his path to earning a berth in the senior squad looking difficult.

After being selected with pick 41 in the rookie draft last year after an impressive season at Southport, an ankle injury curtailed his participation, with the 23-year-old playing just eight VFL games.

Wilkinson will link up with Roos, who also had to cut his 2019 season short to go on the show, in an effort to win $250,000.

Roos had been enjoying a solid season and was in the running for the NEAFL MVP before the club told local media that he had accepted a job in the States.

Applications for the show closed on July 7, with it due to air later this year.
