Collingwood defender Tom Langdon took no further part in his side's clash with St Kilda after picking up a knee injury.

The Magpie was seen getting his right knee worked on at half time but looked set to play on in the third quarter.

Though in going for a jog after the main break, Langdon was limping very heavily and returned to the bench to have it looked at further.

The 24-year-old wasn't able to get it right and was later seen sitting on the bench with ice on his knee.

Langdon's loss is a blow for Collingwood, with the backman again proving to be one of the competition's most reliable defenders so far this season.

Add Langon's absence to the pre-match loss of key defender Darcy Moore with an ankle injury, and the Pies were looking light on down back.

St Kilda had also come to the MCG ready to play, going into half time five points behind the star-studded Magpies and not letting up after the break.

Debutant Robbie Young was causing problems with his speed, kicking two goals to ignite the Saints.

The margin was again five points at the final change, though Collingwood found another couple of gears in the fourth term, kicking six of the last seven goals to run out 41-point winners and improve to 7-2 for the season.

After the match coach Nathan Buckley wasn't sure how serious Langdon's injury was.

"He didn't play out the game which would clearly put him under some sort of cloud (for next week)," Buckley said.

"We'll let that settle. We've got a six-day break into our next contest so we'll have a look at that going into next week."

Collingwood's Travis Varcoe may also face a slightly nervous wait for the match review report after he found his way into the umpire's book for a bump on Ed Phillips.

Varcoe appeared to catch Phillips high while going for the footy, inadvertently sandwiching him between his brother Tom.

Phillips however was able to continue which will help Varcoe's case.
