GWS star Toby Greene has been suspended for two weeks after the high hit on Geelong's Patrick Dangerfield during Friday night's match.

The Giants forward struck Dangerfield in the throat while trying to fend off a tackle from the Cats midfielder in the first quarter of the Giants' win at GMHBA Stadium.

Dangerfield left the field immediately and was substituted out of the game before a hospital visit revealed he had suffered a bruised laryngeal.

The AFL's Match Review Panel deemed the incident worthy of a two-match ban to Greene with an early plea, assessing the strike as careless conduct, high impact, high contact.

GWS - who are still pushing for a spot in the AFL finals - are expected to challenge the MRP's verdict, with Melbourne's Bayley Fritsch getting let off after a similar incident earlier in the season.

If Greene is suspended, he will miss the Giants' final two games of the season against Richmond and Carlton, with his team currently sitting in eigth position on the AFL ladder.

In a seperate incident, Geelong veteran Joel Selwood was handed a $3000 fine with an early plea for his high bump on GWS defender Sam Taylor.

Selwood's incident, his second of that type for the season, was assessed as careless conduct, low impact, high contact, with the initial fine of $5000 bumped down with an early plea.
