Sporting News’ favourite country football side Ardmona had a break two weekends back as the Kyabram District Football League paused for intra-league matches, but it was back to the grindstone last weekend as the Cats faced Dookie United.

The day got off to a good start with the reserves kicking their first goal of the season in the second quarter, but the momentum was hard to maintain and Dookie took out the twos 26.21 (177) to Ardmona’s 1.0 (6).

The breakthrough major in the first game of the day unfortunately didn’t inspire the seniors, with the Cats held scoreless for the second time this season and eventually going down 45.33 (303) to 0.0 (00).

Dookie’s Chris Burton feasted down forward with 13 goals in his first game of the season, a fine effort but eight short of the 21 Stanhope’s Rohan Baldock slotted against Ardmona’s defence in the previous round.

Sporting News is investigating if the Stanhope forward is the same Rohan Baldock who kicked 241 goals for South Burnie in 2016. We have a sneaking suspicion it may be.

The good news is the result didn’t see the Cats move down the ladder and they still sit second-bottom in 13th spot due to the two premiership points they took from the abandoned round five clash with Undera.

However, their low percentage (1.67%, Points for: 25, Points against: 1499) will make it difficult to stay ahead of the Rushworth Tigers, currently winless in 14th.

Ardmona meets Rushworth in what should be a belter of a contest in round 11, but first they have to get past Violet Town this weekend.

The 'Towners' seniors sit in 11th spot with just one win, so the Cats could fancy their chances.

If you want to get down and support Ardmona, cheer them on, help out by buying a few sausages in bread or even offering to pull on the boots, then get down to the Ardmona Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

The reserves kick off at 12.05 and the seniors from 2.05pm.

Go Cats!
