Adelaide skipper Taylor Walker has been doing his best to drag his side and himself back into top form but he may have earned himself a short break following a bump on Zach Tuohy.

Walker was placed on report late in the first term of his team's clash with Geelong at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.

Tuohy had been attempting to tidy up a loose ball in defence when he tapped the ball past Walker.

The Crows skipper elected to bump, with his shoulder appearing to collect the slightly shorter Irishman in the jaw.

Tuohy tried to stay on the field but was taken from the ground under doctor's orders before heading down into the rooms for an assessment.

In Walker's favour will be the fact that Tuohy was able to return to the ground in the second quarter.

The Fox Footy panel discussed the incident at half time, with Jon Ralph sure that Walker would get at least a week for the bump.

"Taylor Walker will not play next week against Brisbane, that much is certain," he said.

"I suppose the only question mark is whether he gets a second week's suspension.

"Given that Tuohy passed the concussion test...it's a chance to only be medium impact, now careless and medium is a week, that doesn't seem enough, so maybe he could elevate the force given the capacity to cause serious injury."

The bump wasn't the only incident in a riveting opening quarter, with Joel Selwood and Bryce Gibbs clashing in a moment that may require another look.

Gibbs bumped the Geelong skipper off the ball, seeing Selwood hit the deck, though the replay didn't appear to show much contact.

Given the AFL's recent crackdown on staging, Selwood might find himself lighter in the pocket after that one.

Adelaide took a narrow 51-43 lead into the main break.
