UPDATE: North Melbourne's Taylor Garner has been stood down this week following an incident at a Sydney bar.

It is alleged that Garner got into a fight at The Golden Sheaf during the weekend, and allegedly broke a man's nose.

The Kangaroos have made the decision to stand Garner down from this week's game while they investigate the incident.

“We simply will not tolerate anyone who compromises team standards and expectations,” North general manager of football Cameron Joyce told the club website.

“Taylor knows he made some poor choices on the weekend and we will continue to work with him to ensure he bounces back a better person.

“At this stage, he will play in the VFL this weekend.”

Regarding the matter of a police investigation, Joyce said that the decision has been made independent of any findings from them.

“The club’s decision to penalise Taylor has been made independently of any police investigation or potential outcome,” he added.

“After speaking with Taylor yesterday, he unreservedly apologised and has fully accepted the club’s initial stance.”

North Melbourne play Collingwood this Saturday night.

EARLIER: North Melbourne's Taylor Garner is investigating an alleged incident where he broke the nose of a man in a Sydney bar.

It is understood that Garner told Kangaroos officials on Monday morning, after he was involved in a fight at The Golden Sheaf, according to The Herald Sun.

The 25-year-old will face the leadership group on Tuesday, with an internal suspension likely from North Melbourne.

The Kangaroos said in a statement that they were aware of the reports, but declined to comment any further.

“The North Melbourne Football Club is aware of an alleged incident involving Taylor Garner which occurred in Sydney on the weekend," the statement read.

“The club is investigating the matter and will make no further comment at this stage.”

Garner has played only 38 games for the Roos since he was drafted at pick 15 in the 2012 draft.

Ravaged by injuries, Garner's game time has been limited, but he managed to make his return to the side in round seven this year, before being dropped in round 13.
