Key Magpies midfielder Taylor Adams is expected to sign a long-term contract extension with the club in the coming days.

Adams is due to come out of contract at the end of 2019 but is set to stop any speculation about his future in its tracks with a new deal.

AFL.com.au are reporting that the deal is understood to be four or five years in length.

The news will be a big boost to last year's grand finalists, with the 25-year-old former Giant emerging as one of the club's most important players.

He has played 120 senior games, 89 of those since joining the Pies at the end 2013.

Adams finished second in the club's best and fairest in 2017 and was among their best performers in the grand final loss to West Coast, finishing second behind Luke Shuey in Norm Smith Medal voting.

He has averaged 28 disposals per game over the last two seasons.

Adams may not be the only Magpie to put pen to paper shortly, with reports suggesting the much improved Tom Phillips is also on the verge of signing a new deal.

Other notable Magpies coming to the end of their contracts in 2019 include Brayden Sier, Adam Treloar, Daniel Wells, Ben Reid, Jack Crisp and Levi Greenwood.
