Sydney Swans and Sofia Vergara: Which Celebrity should support your Club?

In actual fact, she may have even found a replacement for on-screen husband Al Bundy, sorry Ed O'Neill, if the photos of her with Sydney coach John Longmire are anything to go by.

Vergara, though, appears a perfect fit to be a Swans supporter. She's considered one of TV's good guys – or girls in this case – and is successful at what she does without really fitting in with what everyone around her in the industry is doing.

So, with that in mind, we thought we'd have a look at which famous stars other sides around Australia should be chasing – or have already claimed as their own.

Richmond – Lindsay Lohan
Surely Lindsay would look good in a Tigers jumper. Like Richmond, her better career days are behind her but she still gets plenty of attention without really doing much to deserve it.

Greater Western Sydney Giants – Rob Schneider
South Park famously suggested Rob Schneider should be the star of a movie called The Carrot. Well, by wearing a GWS top, he'd be halfway there. Like the Giants, no one's really sure what Schneider does as well!

David Hasslehoff – Newcastle or Manly (depending on which day it is)
It's doubtful The Hoff even remembers visiting Australia last year, let alone pledging his allegiance to two clubs inside 24 hours. The Night Rider star and cheeseburger aficionado was photographed in a Newcastle jersey during his (hardly ever) sold out "Evening with David Hasslehoff' tour – but then jumped into Manly's maroon and white just 24 hours later. You're nothing but a NRL whore, Hoff!

The Australian Cricket Team – David and Corinne from My Kitchen Rules

Similar to the Aussie team, Captain David and his self-described 'Trophy' Corinne like to dish it out when they're in the field – in this case their competitor's instant restaurants – but struggle when the heat's really applied to them. The fact the Aussies have someone like Dave to make vicious little comments is another point of similarity.

St Kilda – Peter Dinklage
If anyone can lead the Saints out of a mess at the end of a season then it's TV's craftiest man Tyrion Lannister from Game Of Thrones. At any rate, the Saints need to curry as much favour with the Dwarf community as possible after their shenanigans last year.

Western Sydney Wanderers – Margot Robbie
Like the Wanderers, former Neighbours' star Robbie enjoyed a breakout 2013 with a starring role in Wolf of Wall Street, where she became a fan favourite simply for delivering a quality performance.

Collingwood – Miley Cyrus
Magpies coach Nathan Buckley took the Wrecking Ball to the Collingwood list over the summer, making Miley the perfect candidate for a black and white jumper. We're also pretty sure someone like Dane Swan would know a twerker or two out on the Melbourne dance floors, while half the Collingwood supporters still sport a Billy Ray Cyrus mullet, so she'd feel right at home.

Collingwood – Rob Lowe
Sticking with the Pies and they did manage to find a real-life celebrity fan in Rob Lowe back in 2003. Lowe probably wouldn't have known his West Wing from his Dougie Hawkins' wing but he still belted out a rendition of Good Old Collingwood Forever with the boys after they trounced St Kilda. Perhaps Collingwood were inspired by the fact Lowe was No.2 in the Austin Powers movies, for they were certainly No.2 to Brisbane later that year in one of the more one-sided Grand Finals ever seen.

Cronulla Sharks - Elle Macpherson
There were two glamours known as 'The Body' at Cronulla in the 1980-90s. But while Andrew Ettingshausen put his on the line in a record 328 games, the other hasn't been sighted once. That's despite Macpherson's father Peter Gow standing as Sharks chairman before overdosing on beef and black bean sauce and shredding a St George jumper to pieces in the club's Chinese restaurant. His famous daughter is obviously the type to support from a distance rather than stretching her lithe chassis out on the Shark Park hill. We conducted a thorough investigation – and we mean thorough – and could not find any photographic evidence of Elle at a Cronulla game. There's always a spot in the press box Elle, should you decide to take in a game this year.

Port Adelaide – Teresa Palmer
Up-and-coming Hollywood star Teresa Palmer was discovered in a clothes shop in Rundle Mall. A Power fan, rumours have emerged she prepared for her role in Warm Bodies – a movie about zombies – by hanging around with former Port coach Matthew Primus.

South Sydney - Snoop Dogg/Ed O'Neill/Pamela Anderson/Eva Mendes/Tom Cruise
Thanks to Hollywood owner Russell Crowe, Souths do the celebrity (non) fan better than any club in any sport in Australia. Most don't have a say in it: Rusty simply slaps a Rabbitohs cap on them and frog-marches them out to the nearest Bunnies game. Snoop Dogg seems the most genuine. He actually wore a Souths jersey during a performance in 2006 – before trying to roll it into the biggest spliff you've ever seen.
