Sydney v Hawthorn: Dane Rampe and Callum Sinclair brain fades give Jack Gunston goal image

There's something about the Randwick end at the SCG that makes Dane Rampe do strange things.

That was the end were the Swans defender attempted to climb a post against Essendon earlier this year and it was the site of another brain fade from Rampe and a teammate against the Hawks on Friday night.

With Hawthorn gradually chipping away at the Swans margin, the visitors received a boost on the three-quarter time siren.

Jack Gunston snapped one towards goal from a tight angle, the siren blew and Rampe and Sydney ruckman Callum Sinclair stopped playing and the ball bounced through for a goal.

Hawthorn swingman James Sicily was on hand to shepherd it over the line, but he wasn't even required.

Absolute coach killer.

Fortunately for Sydney, the goal didn't prove telling, with young forward Nick Blakey stepping up in the absence of Lance Franklin to inspire the home side in the final term.

With Franklin off nursing another hamstring injury, Blakey kicked two goals in the final quarter, including one after a big hanger, to help Sydney to a 19-point win.

It was a rough couple of quarters for ruckman Sinclair, he bounced back from the three-quarter time brain fade to kick a goal before knocking himself out via a heavy faceplant.

The big man dived to attempt a mark and broke the fall with his chin, leaving him in la la land momentarily.
