Round one is finally upon us.

You've done your homework, you've pored over the pre-season matches and listened to every soundbite from all the coaches just to get the edge over your rivals.

Or maybe you haven't, we've got you covered if that's the case: The rookie bible | Mid-price POD guide

However, all your best-laid plans could be scuppered if your players don't make it past the selection committee.

These are the blokes named in round one who you ought to be considering.

Carlton vs Richmond

Thursday 7:25pm. MCG

Sam Walsh (MID) - $207,300

He's in, as if there was any doubt. He's looked a jet ever since he arrived at the club and he dominated over pre-season. He's a pick and stick for us.

Will Setterfield (MID/FWD) - $144,900

At 63 per cent ownership he's got the weight of the nation's Supercoaches on his shoulders. On the evidence so far, he won't let us down.

Michael Gibbons (MID) - $102,400

Passes the first test with selection. We're still tossing this one up. If he's deployed as a forward, will he be able to score consistently enough? We're not so sure.

Nic Newman (DEF) - $394,100

The former Swan is a popular choice with many tipping him to take his game to the next level. Certainly knows how to find the footy and could quite possibly end the season as a top 10 defender.

Noah Balta (FWD) - $123,900

(Insert bolter joke) Now that's out of the way, this kid looks like a serious prospect. Job security is always going to be a question mark at the Tigers but Damien Hardwick clearly likes him and rookie forwards are in short supply.

The rest of the round will be updated once teams are named at 6:30pm on Thursday.
