Young St Kilda ruckman Rowan Marshall has committed to the Saints until the end of 2022.

Marshall was originally set to come out of contract at the end of this year, but he has re-signed with St Kilda for the next three.

It is a big coup for the Saints, with Marshall coming into his own this year, averaging 17 disposals, 26 hit-outs and 11 contested possessions.

Selected with pick 10 in the 2016 rookie draft, Marshall has only played 22 games in his career, but has had a strong season, proving to be one of the more exciting talls in the competition.

With the Saints' ruck stocks relatively weak this year, as Billy Longer is struggling for form and Lewis Pierce is battling concussion, Marshall told the St Kilda website of his desire to improve.

"I've loved my time at the Saints so far and am stoked to have signed this new deal," Marshall said.

"I feel like I've really learned a lot during my time, especially the past eight months or so, and I'm excited to keep growing and learning.

"I really believe in what we're building and I'm looking forward to being part of it."

St Kilda list manager James Gallagher told the Saints website of his delight at the 23-year-old's decision to recommit to the club.

"We're thrilled to have Rowan sign on for a further three years," Gallagher said.

"His performances and the way he has embraced the challenge of his new role this year is reflective of the overall attitude with which he approaches his football.

"He's a professional, determined and passionate young man, and we believe he has a really exciting future ahead of him here at the club."
