St Kilda v Port Adelaide: Unlucky Jarryn Geary to require surgery after breaking his leg in Saints horror show image

Update

Luckless St. Kilda skipper Jarryn Geary will require surgery after he broke his fibula during Saturday's clash with Port Adelaide in China.

The Saints captain returned to Melbourne on a seperate flight from the rest of his team.

The recovery period looks to be about 8-10 weeks, but it is unlikely that Geary will play again this year.

When it rains, it pours.

So much positivity stemmed from Jarryn Geary's miraculous return from emergency surgery, but the Saints skipper's luck ran out on Sunday.

With St Kilda being put to the sword by a rampant Port Adelaide, Geary went down in a tackle midway through the final term.

Straight away, the pain was etched across Geary's face, and the 30-year-old was helped from the ground by trainers.

Replays appeared to show Geary kicking the back of his own leg.

Geary's right leg was the one in question earlier in the season when he required emergency surgery following a horror corkie against Melbourne.

On Sunday, Geary's left leg was the concern, the skipper clutching at his ankle area.

It was later confirmed Geary had been sent to hospital for an X-ray on a suspected leg fracture.

The injury compounded a horrific day for the Saints, the Power cruising following a first-term shootout to eventually seal a 70-point win in the 22.7 (139) to 9.15 (69) pounding.

The percentage-boosting win helped Port Adelaide scythe back into the top eight, while the Saints lost further touch.

Riley Bonner and Robbie Gray managed three goals apiece for the Power, while Jade Gresham (three goals) was one of few Saints to leave a mark on the scoreboard.
