Hawthorn champion Shaun Burgoyne is reportedly close to signing with the Gold Coast next season.

Burgoyne has been linked with a move to the Suns throughout the year, with a mentoring role as a player/coach.

The 36-year-old comes out-of-contract at the end of the season, with journalist Sam Edmund reporting that Burgoyne has been offered a three-year deal.

“I’m hearing Shaun Burgoyne is very, very close to being formalised as a recruit at the Gold Coast Suns,” Edmund told SEN on Tuesday.

“I’ve been told it’s a three-year deal to join the Suns and reunite with the CEO Mark Evans. There would be a coaching component involved in that as well.

“It would be a great get for the Gold Coast Suns, that’s no secret. I think it’s really, really close.”

Burgoyne has played 376 games for both Port Adelaide and Hawthorn, a record for any Indigenous footballer, while having won four premierships, one with the Power in 2004, and three with the Hawks in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
