Ross Lyon: Former Fremantle coach doesn't agree with decision to let him go; thanks club for his time image

Ross Lyon has admitted he would have liked to see out coaching Fremantle in 2020, but has thanked the club for his time as head coach.

The 52-year-old was shown the door by the Dockers Tuesday afternoon, following Fremantle's poor season that will see them miss the finals for the fourth year in a row.

Lyon fronted up to the media on Tuesday, reflecting on the memories of his tenure at Fremantle.

"I'd really like to acknowledge...my whole time, I've been unconditionally supported," Lyon told reporters

"The ride is worth the fall, it's an amazing ride.

"I don't take it personally, there's always different opinions and agendas.

"The Dockers will also hold a special place in my heart."

Lyon went on to say while he didn't agree with the decision to let him go, he did not take it to heart.

"It's an opinion business," he said.

"I would have liked to have finished next year.

"I would have been strong enough and tough enough to go through next year. There's always that pain but it's a tough, brutal game."

"We've beaten six of the top eight.

"I don't agree with (the decision), but I certainly respect it."

Lyon said that he will continue to test himself, and has enrolled in a course of behavioural economics at Harvard.
