After controversially breaking with tradition to appoint co-captains this year, Port Adelaide have opted to revert back to a single skipper for the 2020 season.

Tom Jonas will assume the role, with Ollie Wines no longer a captain.

Wines will however be included in the three-man leadership group, also featuring Hamish Hartlett.

Port Adelaide president David Koch said the club had received negative feedback regarding to co-captains.

"Our people have reminded us that some icons cannot be compromised and we understand that," Koch said.

"It is clear that a one captain leadership model is best for our club and what’s best for our club is ultimately what’s best for the team."

Port Adelaide's captain has traditionally worn the number one guernsey, with Jonas set to carry that on next season.

"This club has an incredible history of success with so many great on field leaders across our 150 years," Jonas said.

"To be able to pull on the famous number one guernsey and lead our club will be a great honour that I will cherish.

"I have learnt so much over the last 12 months and I’m looking to continue to develop my leadership with the support of Ollie and Hamish, as well as learn from experienced players such as Trav, Robbie and Westy."
