Port Adelaide midfielder Ollie Wines has given the club a huge boost heading into the back half of the season, signing a four-year contract extension with the club.

The 23-year-old has played 119 games for the Power since his 2013 debut, establishing himself as a key component of the club's engine room almost from day one.

Wines, who was due to come out of contract at season's end, is understood to have fielded several big offers from his native Victoria but reportedly wanted to repay the faith shown when Port Adelaide drafted him with pick seven.

The news will come as a huge relief to the Power faithful, with the midfielder's form so far in 2018 showing exactly why he was so highly sought-after.

Wines has been averaging a whopping 27 disposals this season and would be a safe bet to be leading the club's best and fairest.

“This club has done everything right by me and my family since it welcomed me into the club six years ago,” Wines told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“I have a firm belief in where the club is heading, the playing group it’s formed and the support off-field, and I am looking forward to the future.

The contract paves the way for the man many believe to be Travis Boak's natural successor as captain to assume the role when the time comes.

Port Adelaide footy manager Chris Davies said the deal was a vote of confidence from Wines.

“Ollie is a great player, a brilliant young leader, and a popular member of the Port Adelaide community,” Davis said.

“We see his signing as a significant commitment to Port Adelaide’s football program and a belief in the direction the club is heading.”

Port Adelaide currently sit in seventh but with a game in hand against most of their rivals above them.

They take on Melbourne at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.
