GWS defender Nick Haynes looks set to play out the rest of his career as a Giant after signing a five-year contract extension with the club.

Originally taken with pick seven, Haynes was a member of the Giants' inaugural squad, making his debut in 2012 and compiling 105 senior games since.

The new deal will keep the 26-year-old in Western Sydney until at least the end of 2024.

GWS list manager Jason McCartney spoke to gwsgiants.com.au about the news.

"To sign Nick Haynes on a five-year deal is a big coup for one of the most reliable defenders in the competition," McCartney said.

"Nick goes about his business quietly and sometimes doesn’t get the plaudits externally, but we see him as one of the most impressive defenders in the game and a key part of our defensive set-up."

Haynes said he was confident the club can achieve success with the current group.

"I’m really excited to sign a long-term contract extension with the club," Haynes said.

"I re-signed because I absolutely believe in where this team can go, and I want to be part of building this club for long-term success."

Haynes wasn't the only Giant to sign a contract extension on Friday, with small forward Brent Daniels adding two years to his time at the club.

Daniels, 19, was taken with pick 27 in the 2017 draft and played seven matches in his debut season last year, kicking four goals as a small forward.

2019 shapes as a big year for GWS both on and off the field, as they look to consolidate after losing several players to trade and free agency.

Dylan Shiel, Tom Scully and Rory Lobb all left the club, while several key players in Josh Kelly, Stephen Coniglio and Jacob Hopper come out of contract at season's end.
