Geelong have locked in another key player with midfielder Mitch Duncan signing a contract extension with the club.

Duncan was due to come out of contract at the end of next season but will now be tied to the Cats until at least the end of 2024.

The news follows Geelong's announcement earlier on Wednesday that livewire forward Gary Rohan had signed a two-year extension.

28-year-old Duncan has played 203 AFL games since being taken with the 28th pick in the 2009 draft.

Originally from Western Australia, Duncan has emerged into an important and durable part of Chris Scott's side.

Duncan has played more than 20 games in all but two of his 10 seasons in the AFL and last season averaged 25 disposals per match.

Geelong footy manager Simon Lloyd said the club were happy to hang on to the veteran.

"The club is delighted to see Mitch commit to the club,” Lloyd said.

"Mitch has been a mainstay of our team over 10 seasons, a dependable, intelligent teammate and a quality player.

"Our members and supporters have watched Mitch’s career unfold and we all look forward to it continuing over the next five seasons."

Duncan was a part of the Cats' 2011 premiership side and in 2017 finished second behind Patrick Dangerfield in the club's best and fairest.
