Melbourne premiership star Jake Lever has received medical attention after collapsing during his first training session back in pre-season.

In vision broadcast on Nine News, the 25-year-old appeared wobbly on his feet after an excruciating running drill, before lowering himself to the ground at the Demons' Casey Fields training facility.

Lever was attended to by doctors for 20 minutes before the All Australian defender was sent home from training by coach Simon Goodwin to rest and recuperate.

According to Fox Sports, the Demons said that Lever fainted after pushing himself too hard at his first session back, with Melbourne's older players returning to training after an extended break following their 2021 AFL premiership triumph.

Lever joined the All-Australian club in 2021 after being picked in the back pocket alongside full-back Steven May when the team was announced in August.

He then went on to play a crucial part in Melbourne winning the 2021 AFL premiership against the Bulldogs, as the club broke a 57-year flag drought.

Lever became the AFL's premier intercept defender in 2021, with opposition teams eventually trying to negate his influence as the season went on.

The 195cm defender started his career in Adelaide but requested a trade to the Demons three days after the Crows lost the 2017 grand final to Richmond.

After being drafted with pick 14 in the 2014 AFL National Draft, Victorian-born Lever played 56 games for Adelaide and has currently tallied up 60 for Melbourne.
