Melbourne have announced the re-signings of eight young stars for at least 2020 and beyond.

The Dees had a torrid season after so much promise from the year before, dropping from a preliminary finals spot to 17th on the ladder, winning only five games.

However, they have looked to build into next year, with Kyle Dunkley, Oskar Baker, Alex Neal-Bullen, Joel Smith, Kade Chandler, Jay Lockhart, Josh Wagner and Corey Wagner all penning deals to lock them into the red and the blue for at least one more season.

Baker and Neal-Bullen have both signed two-year deals to remain at the club until at least 2021, while Dunkley, Smith, Chandler, Lockhart and the Wagner brothers have all penned one year deals.

Neal-Bullen is the most experienced of the lot, having played 73 games, including 25 during their 2018 year, including all three finals appearances.

Baker and Lockhart were the standouts this year, both making their debut for the club and doing nicely for themselves.

Dunkley was a mid-season draft pick, and made his debut in the same game against his brother, Josh, from the Western Bulldogs.

The Wagner brothers have been mainstays at the Dees, while Smith will look to come back from the injuries that have plauged the start to his career.

Kade Chandler will also look to build on the start to his career, having debuted at the end of the season.
